Online Safety

At Lonsdale School, we recognise the critical importance of online safety as a core part of our safeguarding practices. In recognition of the increasingly digital world we live in, pupils must learn to navigate online spaces safely, responsibly, and respectfully. We are committed to equipping our students with the knowledge and tools they need to protect themselves and make sensible decisions in the digital realm.

Our online safety approach is guided by the latest local and national standards, ensuring we provide a safe, educational environment for our pupils both on and offline.

Our online safety practices include:

  • Education and Awareness: We provide regular age-appropriate lessons on digital safety, cyberbullying, privacy, and responsible online behaviour, empowering students to use technology safely and effectively.
  • Filtering and Monitoring: Our IT systems are equipped with secure filtering and monitoring tools to prevent access to inappropriate content and detect potential risks. Our DSL and DDSL receive instant notifications if a pupil has attempted to access anything concerning and this allows us to respond quickly.
  • Parent and Caregiver Engagement: We regularly engage with parents and carers, offering resources to support safe online practices at home.
  • Staff Training: All staff members receive updated training on online safety, ensuring they are equipped to address and respond to any online safety concerns.
  • Clear Reporting Mechanisms: We encourage students to speak up about online safety issues. Our school has a clear reporting process for any concerns related to cyberbullying, inappropriate content, or online harassment, with trained staff ready to provide support and guidance.

For further information or to discuss any concerns related to online safety, please contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Miss Sarah Small DSL@lonsdale.herts.sch.uk
