About Us

Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to our Lonsdale School website. Every one of us at Lonsdale is enormously proud of our school; what it stands for and all that our pupils achieve.

Lonsdale is a vibrant, happy and flourishing place to be. People sometimes ask us what’s the secret? But we don’t see it like that. For all of us who learn, teach and work here, three things in particular matter - ambition, community and empowerment.

Ambition, because we want everyone to reach beyond what they think they can do, to grow and develop throughout their time with us; so that they go on to the next stage of their lives as confident, outward-looking young people who believe in themselves and what they can achieve.

Community, because that’s what gives us our identity. Everyone belongs to the Lonsdale family. We learn from and value each other, we listen to and support one another. Pupils, staff, parents and governors work together. That’s how we provide so many exciting opportunities; that’s what empowers and inspires us to do so much.

Empowerment, because we want to encourage and empower our pupils so that they develop confidence and resilience. We want them to adapt and bounce back when things don't go as planned, learn from mistakes and move forward.

We’re even more proud of the fact that we can offer our pupils such a diverse, interesting and well-taught curriculum and that our older students take GCSE and Functional Skills courses, which lead them on to college places and higher education.

And we don’t neglect sport and the arts. We are a Youth Sport Trust Innovation school, we have links with arts organisations, and we take our pupils out of school to learn, take part and contribute to the world around them.

We want to ensure that Lonsdale’s pupils have skills and qualifications, that they are resilient and that they have the confidence to take on the many opportunities that lie ahead of them. Lonsdale – Learning for Life!

So this is my invitation to take a longer look at our website to see what makes us who we are. And even better, perhaps, to come and visit us.
